Augustine "Austin" Amamchukwu Ejide is a former professional footballer from Nigeria. He was born on April 8, 1984. Austin played as a goalkeeper for many years. His middle name, Amamchukwu, means "I know God."

Austin Ejide was born in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. He played for several football clubs during his career. These included Gabros International and SC Bastia in France. He also played for Israeli teams like Hapoel Be'er Sheva and Hapoel Hadera.

Austin's Club Journey

Starting His Football Career

Austin Ejide began his football journey at Gabros International. He had a great season there. After that, he joined Étoile du Sahel, a team in Tunisia. With this Tunisian club, he played in two big finals. These were for the CAF Champions League, a major African football competition.

Playing in France and Israel

In 2006, Austin moved to France. He joined SC Bastia, a club in the French Ligue 2. He played there for three years. Then, he moved to Israel in 2009. He joined Hapoel Petah Tikva. Austin helped this team avoid being moved down to a lower league.

In 2012, Austin Ejide joined Hapoel Be'er Sheva. He played for them until the middle of 2015. Later, in the 2017-2018 season, Austin played for Hapoel Hadera. He played in 27 games and did not let the other team score in 15 of those games. This is called keeping a "clean sheet."

A Hero for Hapoel Hadera

Austin's excellent goalkeeping helped Hapoel Hadera earn a spot in the Israel Premier League. This was a very big deal for the city of Hadera. The team had not been in the top league for 39 years. Because of his efforts, many people in Hadera saw Austin Ejide as a hero. He helped bring their team back to the highest level of Israeli football.

Debut and World Cup Appearances

Austin Ejide first played for the Nigerian national team on June 16, 2001. This game was against Namibia. He was chosen to be part of Nigeria's squad for three FIFA World Cup tournaments. These were in 2002, 2010, and 2014. The World Cup is one of the biggest football events in the world.

Africa Cup of Nations Success

Austin also played in five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. These are major football competitions for African countries. He was part of the Nigerian team in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2013. In 2013, his team won the competition! This was a huge achievement for Nigeria.

In 2013, Austin was also chosen for Nigeria's team at the FIFA Confederations Cup. This tournament brings together champions from different continents.

Key Matches in 2008 AFCON

During the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, which was held in Ghana, Austin Ejide was the main goalkeeper for Nigeria. He played in all four of Nigeria's matches. His first game in that tournament was on January 21, 2008. Nigeria lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast. However, Austin kept clean sheets in two other important games. These were a 0-0 draw with Mali and a 2-0 win against Benin.
