Aventura Mall is a very large shopping mall located in Aventura, Florida. It is one of the biggest malls in the United States. In fact, it is the largest mall in Florida!

Aventura Mall has many different stores. You can find over 300 shops there. These include popular brands like Apple, Adidas, H&M, Louis Vuitton, and Zara. The main stores, called "anchor stores," are Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, two Macy's stores, and JCPenney.

Besides shopping, Aventura Mall also has more than 50 places to eat. There's a big food court called Treats Food Hall. The mall also has an "Arts Aventura Mall" program. This program shows off 20 amazing art pieces. They are like what you would see in a museum!

A new train station, the Brightline Aventura Station, is being built nearby. It will make it easy for people to visit the mall. There will even be a bridge to walk directly from the station to the mall.

History of Aventura Mall

How Aventura Mall Started

Aventura Mall first opened its doors in April 1983. It was built by the Oxford Development Company. Key people involved were Donald Soffer and Edward J. DeBartolo Sr..

When it first opened, the mall had four main stores. These were Lord & Taylor, JCPenney, Sears, and Macy's. The Macy's store was the first one in Florida. It had a special Spanish-style design.

Changes and Growth Over Time

After the mall opened, Donald Soffer's company, Turnberry Associates, took over its management. In 1996, another company, Simon Property Group, became a part-owner.

In 1996, Aventura Mall started a big expansion. They added a new part with a three-story entrance. This new area included an AMC Theatres movie theater. A Rainforest Cafe also opened, but it later became a Zara store, and then an H&M.

Two of the original stores, JCPenney and Lord and Taylor, became bigger. New anchor stores were also added. A three-story Bloomingdale's opened in 1997. Then, a Burdines store opened in 1999.

Mall Updates and New Stores

In 2004, Burdines and Macy's became one company. Both of their locations at Aventura Mall stayed open. The original Macy's focused on women's and kids' clothes. The former Burdines store sold men's and home items.

In 2005, Lord & Taylor closed its store. Later, in 2008, a new Nordstrom store opened. Before Nordstrom opened, the rest of the mall got a $20 million makeover.

In 2017, Aventura Mall opened another large expansion. This new wing added more stores like a two-story Zara. It also brought new restaurants and more art pieces. One famous art piece is the 93-foot-tall Aventura Slide Tower by Carsten Holler.

The Sears store closed in 2017. There are plans to build a new shopping area called the Esplanade at Aventura where it used to be.

In 2019, Aventura Mall opened a new event space called LEVEL THREE. Also in 2019, Apple moved into a new, two-story store. It has an amphitheater and a special outdoor area.
