History of Avoca
Avoca was officially planned and built in 1882. This happened when a new train line was extended to that area. The village got its name from the beautiful River Avoca in Ireland.

Culture and Events
Avoca is famous for its special event called the Quack-Off duck races. This fun race happens every year on the last Saturday in January. It has been a tradition since 1980.
The Quack-Off Duck Races
The Quack-Off duck races attract many people. Usually, about 400 "racers" (rubber ducks) take part. Between 3,500 and 4,000 people come to watch the event. You can register for the race on the main street at the Quack-Off Headquarters. All the money raised from the race helps the Avoca Rural Volunteer Fire Department.
