Babcock is a small community located in Wood County, Wisconsin, in the United States. It's known as a census-designated place, which means it's a specific area identified by the government for gathering population data, but it's not a formally incorporated town or city. Babcock is found southwest of Wisconsin Rapids, within the town of Remington. The community has its own post office with the ZIP code 54413. According to the 2010 census, about 126 people lived there. Babcock's fun motto is "Birds, Bogs, and Bucks!"
History of Babcock
Babcock was named after a person named Joseph W. Babcock. He was a sawmill operator, which means he worked with cutting wood. Joseph Babcock bought the land where the community now stands. He then built a hotel and a train station there. These buildings helped the community grow and become a recognized place.
Trains and Transportation
Long ago, Babcock was a very important spot for trains. It was a major junction for the Milwaukee Road railway. This meant that train tracks used to go in many different directions from Babcock – north, east, south, and southwest.
Today, things are a bit different for trains in Babcock. Only one train track, which is now owned by the Canadian National Railway, still runs through the community. This track goes south towards Necedah and east towards Port Edwards and Wisconsin Rapids.
