Babu Karam Singh Bal (born around 1927 – died October 7, 1992) was an important Indian politician. He was a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal party and served as the sarpanch (village head) for the town of Sathiala in Punjab, India. Besides his political work, Bal was also the manager of Gurdwara Baba Bakala Sahib for 38 years. This Gurdwara is a very important Sikh temple, and he managed it under the SGPC, which looks after Sikh holy places.
Babu Karam Singh also led Sathiala College as its chairman. He was involved in many different groups and projects within the college.

His Early Life and Family
Karam Singh Bal was born into a Sikh family in Sathiala, Punjab, which was part of British India at the time. His parents were Sawan Singh and Tej Kaur. He had three brothers and two sisters, and he was the third youngest child.
Even though he grew up in Sathiala, Babu Karam Singh later moved to Baba Bakala. This move happened when he was chosen to be the manager of Gurdwara Baba Bakala Sahib.
His Hobbies and Interests
Babu Karam Singh had many different interests. He loved reading novels and keeping up with current events. He was also a very good chess player. A special passion of his was writing classical poetry, especially a type of poem called a Ghazal.
His Education Journey
Babu Karam Singh went to college in Lahore before India was divided into separate countries. He did not go on to study at a university. At that time, universities were often far away in big cities like Delhi or Mumbai, making them hard to get to for many people.
His Political Career
Throughout his entire career, Babu Karam Singh was a dedicated member of the Shiromani Akali Dal party. This is a major political party in Punjab. Because of his strong involvement, he became friends with many important people in the party. These friends included leaders like Harchand Singh Longowal, Parkash Singh Badal, Gurcharan Singh Tohra, and Jiwan Singh Umranangal.
In the 1980s, Karam Singh was offered a chance to become an MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) for the Beas area. An MLA is a representative who helps make laws for a state. However, he decided not to run in the elections. Even so, he remained a very important and respected person in the politics of his region.
His Charity Work
Babu Karam Singh was also well-known for his extensive charity work in the areas around Baba Bakala. He helped many people who did not have jobs by giving them work. He also paid for the education of children whose parents could not afford to send them to school. Overall, he was a kind and caring person who worked to help others, often called a humanitarian.
Remembering Babu Karam Singh
To honor the memory of Babu Karam Singh Bal, a special pillar has been built. It stands on Batala Road in Sathiala. This memorial is located exactly where his funeral took place in 1992.
