Bad Axe is a city in the state of Michigan, in the United States. It is the main city of Huron County, located in a part of Michigan called "the Thumb." In 2020, about 3,021 people lived there. This makes Bad Axe the biggest town in Huron County.

History of Bad Axe
The city of Bad Axe was officially started in 1905. Its unusual name comes from when the area was first settled. In 1861, two men, Rudolph Papst and George Willis Pack, were exploring and mapping a new road. They set up their camp where Bad Axe is now.
While at their camp, they found an old, broken axe. It had been used a lot and was in bad shape. George Pack suggested they call their camp "Bad Axe Camp." Rudolph Papst wrote this name in his notes and even put up a sign with the name. The first post office in Bad Axe opened in 1870.

Bad Axe is a city built entirely on land. It covers an area of about 2.26 square miles (6.03 square kilometers).
