Lilian Jackson Braun (born June 20, 1913 – died June 4, 2011) was an American writer. She became very famous for her "The Cat Who..." series of mystery books. These books are about a former newspaper reporter named James Qwilleran and his two smart Siamese cats, KoKo and Yum Yum.
Lilian Jackson Braun wrote 29 books in "The Cat Who..." series. She also wrote several collections of short stories. She preferred old-fashioned ways of writing. She did not like to use new technology like computers. Instead, she wrote all her books using a typewriter or by hand.
Her Life and Career
After writing her third "Cat Who" book, The Cat Who Turned On and Off, Lilian Jackson Braun took a break from writing novels. She started working for a newspaper called the Detroit Free Press. She worked there for 30 years!
She began her job as "The Good Living" editor. This meant she helped readers with tips for a good home life. She wrote interesting articles about how to design the inside of homes, about art, and about how buildings are made (which is called architecture). She also wrote reviews of kitchen tools and other products for the home.
