Bahram's Music Journey
Bahram Nouraei first became well-known in 2007. This happened with a political song called "Nameyee Be Rayees Jomhour." This song was like an open letter that shared ideas about the then-president of Iran.
His first album, "24 Sa'at" (which means "24 Hours"), came out in August 2008. It included a powerful song called "Inja Irane" (meaning "Here's Iran"). The magazine Rolling Stone said this song was a strong comment on what Iran was like at the time.
His second album, "Sokoot" (meaning "Silence"), was released in 2011. This album featured "Khorshid Khanoom" (meaning "Lady Sunshine"). This song was special because it was one of the first abstract hip hop tracks from Iran. It was like a monologue (a long speech by one person) talking to the sun.
The "Good Mistake" Album
Bahram's third album, "Eshtebahe Khoob" (meaning "Good Mistake"), is a very unique project. It's known as the first concept album from Iran. A concept album tells a story or explores a main idea through all its songs. This album used a special way of storytelling called reverse chronology. This means the story is told backward, starting from the end.
This album was mostly produced by Bahram and Mahdyar Aghajani. It also got support from the Cultures of Resistance Network Foundation. "Good Mistake" was released on July 4, 2015. It quickly became popular, reaching #4 and #6 on Billboard's Top World Albums Chart. To make the album even more special, a collection of artworks was created for each song. These artworks helped people understand the album's themes visually.
"Gozaar" and "Khodha"
Bahram released an EP (a shorter album) called "Gozaar" (meaning "Transition") on March 22, 2020. This was at the same time as the Iranian New Year. It was produced by Nesa Azadikhah, Ashkan Mousavi, and Peymandegar.
His latest album, "Khodha" (meaning "Selves"), came out on April 13, 2023. It was produced by Ashkan Mousavi, Peymandegar, and Nesa Azadikhah. This album was a huge hit, taking over the top 12 spots on the SoundCloud Hot&New chart!
In "Khodha," Bahram explores ideas about our "conscious" (what we are aware of) and "unconscious" (what we are not aware of) minds. He uses ideas from Carl Jung's "Theory of Shadows." Through metaphors like a "mirror" and a "pig," he talks about how understanding ourselves better can help with problems in society.
Bahram's Activism
Bahram is also known for his activism. In 2009, he spent one week in Evin Prison. He was accused of illegal cultural activism. Luckily, he was set free.
He also appeared in a documentary film called "Bahram: An Iranian Rapper." This film showed the underground music scene in Iran. It also helped explain Iranian culture after the Islamic revolution. The film was shown at the San Francisco's Iranian film festival in September 2011.
