History of Bailey
The city of Bailey started in the late 1850s. Farmers moved to this area because the soil was very rich. They mostly grew cotton and corn.
Two important people, Dr. Josiah S. Bailey and Dr. A. J. Ray, both owned land where the town was growing. They both wanted the town to be named after them. The argument ended in 1885. The St. Louis Southwestern Railway decided to use the land that Dr. Bailey had given for their train tracks. That's how the town got its name, Bailey!
