Bairoil is a small town in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, United States. In 2020, about 68 people lived there.
History
Bairoil was started around 1916 by Charles M. Bair. He used to be a sheep rancher.
Charles Bair was the first person to drill for oil in this area. He created the Bair Oil Company. The town was named after his company.
The town got its own post office in 1924. Bairoil officially became a town in 1980. This means it got its own local government.
In 1989, a world record for hang-gliding was set here. Kevin Christopherson flew 287 miles (462 km) from Bairoil to North Dakota. He used a strong updraft, which is rising air.
Geography
Bairoil is located in Wyoming. It covers an area of about 1.41 square miles (3.66 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
The town is on the northeast edge of the Great Divide Basin. This is a large, dry area where rivers do not flow to the ocean.
Wyoming Highway 73 is a road that goes east from Bairoil. It leads about 5 miles (8 km) to the town of Lamont.
Climate
Bairoil has a semi-arid climate. This means it is usually dry, but not a desert. It gets some rain, but not a lot.

Education
Students in Bairoil attend public schools run by Carbon County School District Number 1.
Younger students go to Rawlins Elementary School. Middle schoolers attend Rawlins Middle School. High school students go to Rawlins High School.
Bairoil used to have its own elementary school. But in 2013, Bairoil Elementary closed down. This happened because not enough students were enrolled there.
The town also has a public library. It is part of the Sweetwater County Library System.
