Bajram Begaj (born March 20, 1967) is an Albanian politician and military officer. He has been the president of Albania since 2022. Before becoming president, he was the top military leader of the Albanian Armed Forces. He held the title of Chief of General Staff from July 2020 to June 2022. Begaj is the second president in Albania's history after the communist era to have a strong military background.

About Bajram Begaj
Early Life and Military Career
Bajram Begaj was born in Rrogozhinë, Albania, on March 20, 1967. He studied medicine at the Faculty of Medicine in Tirana. He finished his studies in 1989. By 1998, he became an active medical officer in the military. He also earned a special degree, giving him the title "Associate Professor" in Medicine.
Begaj spent 31 years in the military. During this time, he attended many training programs. He took courses in security and defense. He also studied advanced medicine and hospital management. He even completed a course on strategic medical leadership in the United States.
He held several important positions in the Albanian Armed Forces. He was the leader of the Military Medical Unit. He also directed the Military Hospital. In July 2020, he was chosen to be the Chief of the General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces. He started this important role later that month.
Becoming President
On July 24, 2022, Bajram Begaj officially became the president of Albania. He will serve a five-year term. The process to choose a new president began on May 10, 2022. The parliament of Albania started looking for candidates.
The main political party, the Socialist Party, nominated Begaj on June 3, 2022. This happened after he stepped down from his military role. He was then elected president with 78 votes. This was more than enough votes to win. The main opposition party, the Democratic Party, did not take part in the voting.
Since becoming president, Begaj has worked to improve Albania's international relationships. He also focuses on helping Albania join more European and Atlantic groups. He has made many diplomatic trips to other countries. These trips help build partnerships and raise Albania's standing in the world.

Bajram Begaj is married to Armanda Begaj. They have two sons named Dorian and Klajdi.
