Bald Mountain is a cool place in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It's one of the rocky peaks in the Huron Mountains range. This mountain sits right on the edge of Marquette County and Baraga County. Most of its top part is in Marquette County.
It rises about 3 miles (5 km) south of Lake Superior. Lake Superior is a huge lake, sitting at an elevation of 591 feet (180 m).
About Bald Mountain
Bald Mountain is a bit special because it's an "outlier" of the Huron Mountain range. This means it's located a bit further west than most of the other rocky peaks. Think of it like a lone scout ahead of the main group!
Other mountains like Hogsback Mountain and Sugarloaf Mountain are outliers too, but they are on the eastern side of the range.
Who Owns Bald Mountain?
Currently, Bald Mountain is privately owned. This means it belongs to a person or a company, not the public. However, it's managed under a special program called the CFA program. This program helps manage private forest lands.
In 2017, the areas around Bald Mountain were being actively logged. Logging means cutting down trees to use the wood.
