Baltic is a city in South Dakota, United States. It's located along the Big Sioux River in Minnehaha County. In 2020, about 1,246 people lived there. Its motto is "Begin Building Tomorrow Dreams Today."

The History of Baltic
Baltic has had a few different names! It was first called St. Olaf when it was founded in 1881. Before that, a post office was set up in 1872 under the name Saint Olaf.
Later, in 1887, its name changed to Keyes. Then, in 1889, it became Baltic. The Chicago, Milwaukee, Saint Paul and Pacific Railroad built tracks through Baltic. They also built a train station there.

Baltic is located right next to the Big Sioux River.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of about 0.76 square miles (1.97 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 0.74 square miles (1.92 square kilometers), is land. A small part, about 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometers), is water.

In 2010, the city of Baltic had 1,089 people living there. These people lived in 389 households, and 302 of these were families.

Fun Events and Culture
Baltic hosts a special event called Baltic River Park Days. This is a family-friendly festival that happens every year on the third weekend of July.
It takes place at the Scenic River Park. Activities include free outdoor movies, games like kickball and tug-of-war, bean bag tosses, and duck races. There's also a "show and shine" event and a big parade!
Getting Around Baltic (Transportation)
Baltic is located close to two important highways: Interstate 29 and Highway 115.
However, neither of these highways goes directly through the city. To reach them, people use 250th Street, which runs east and west.

Several notable people have come from Baltic:
- Nils Boe – He was the Governor of South Dakota from 1965 to 1969.
- Hans Ustrud – He served as the Lieutenant Governor of South Dakota from 1933 to 1935.
