Banco Safra is a major financial services company in Brazil. Its main office is in São Paulo. It is one of the largest banks in Brazil. It is also one of the biggest banks in all of Latin America. Banco Safra offers many services. These include helping people invest their money. They also manage money for businesses. They even have an online bank called AgZero. The bank is part of a larger financial group called Safra Group.
The History of Banco Safra
The Safra family has a very old connection to banking. Their family started in trade many years ago. They moved goods between cities like Aleppo, Alexandria, and Istanbul. This was during the time of the Ottoman Empire.
After the First World War, the Safra family moved to Beirut. This city is the capital of Lebanon. In 1952, the Safras decided to move to Brazil.
In the 1960s, Joseph Safra and his father, Jacob Safra, started Banco Safra, S.A. Many families from Syria who lived in Brazil were merchants. The Safras first set up a small bank. This bank helped these merchants with their money needs. From this start, the bank grew much bigger.
In 2012, Joseph Safra bought all the remaining shares of Banco Safra. He bought them from his brother, Moise Safra. This made Joseph Safra the full owner of the bank.
