This museum shows the amazing history of currency in Bangladesh, from very old times to today. It also displays money from many different countries around the world. The Bangladesh Bank runs this interesting place.

The Story of the Taka Museum

Did you know the Taka Museum started small? It was first set up as a Currency Museum in 2009. This early version was on the third floor of the main Bangladesh Bank building in Motijheel, Dhaka. However, it was not open for everyone to visit.

Later, a former governor of Bangladesh Bank, Atiur Rahman, had a great idea. He wanted to create a bigger, modern museum for everyone to enjoy. This new museum would have cool digital features and art. So, the Taka Museum was officially opened in Mirpur, Dhaka. This happened on October 5, 2013. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury opened the museum. Since then, it has been open for all visitors to explore!

The Taka Museum has several galleries for you to walk through. Each gallery is like a different room filled with history. You can see how money has changed over many, many years. It's a fun way to learn about the past!

The museum has a huge collection of money! There are more than 10,500 items. This includes both metal coins and paper notes. You can see money from ancient Bangladesh all the way to the money we use now. The museum also has currencies from many different countries around the world. It's like a journey through global money history!
