The Barbados anole (Anolis extremus) is a cool type of lizard. It is a kind of anole (say it: ah-NO-lee). This lizard naturally lives on the island of Barbados in the Caribbean Sea.
At first, it only lived in Barbados. This means it was endemic to Barbados. But over time, it has also been brought to other islands. You can now find it in Saint Lucia and Bermuda too.
Scientists used to think it was a type of subspecies of the anole from Martinique. That lizard is called A. roquet. But now, they know it is its own special species.

What Does the Barbados Anole Look Like?
The Barbados anole has some interesting colors!
Male Anoles
Male Barbados anoles have heads that are a light purple or blue-gray color. Their eyelids are often blue. The top part of their bodies is a deep green. They might have dark marks or even white spots on their backs. Their bellies are usually yellow.
Female Anoles
Female Barbados anoles are a bit smaller than the males. Their colors are also not as bright. Sometimes, a female might have a stripe down the middle of her back.
Where Do They Live?
The main home of the Barbados anole is the island of Barbados. It is a warm, sunny island in the Caribbean.
Sometimes, these lizards have been seen in Florida since the 1990s. However, scientists think this is because they escaped from people's homes. Or maybe they were brought there by accident many times. It's not confirmed that they have a group living and breeding there on their own.
