Barbara Sobotta (born Janiszewska) was a famous Polish athlete. She was born on December 4, 1936, in Poznań and passed away on November 20, 2000, in Kraków. Barbara was known for her amazing speed in sprint races.

Barbara's Big Wins
Barbara Sobotta achieved many great things in her sports career. She was a top sprinter for Poland.
European Championships
In 1958, Barbara competed in the European Championships held in Stockholm. She won a gold medal in the 200 metres race! This was a huge win for her.
She also won a bronze medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the same event. A relay race is where a team of runners passes a baton.
Later, in 1962, Barbara won another gold medal. This was in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the European Championships in Belgrade. She also earned a bronze medal in the 200 metres race there.
Olympic Games Success
Barbara Sobotta represented Poland at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy. This was a very exciting time for her.
She and her teammates, Teresa Wieczorek, Celina Jesionowska, and Halina Richter, worked together. They won a bronze medal in the women's 4 x 100 metres relay race. This was a proud moment for Poland.
