The Story of Barbary Pirate
This film is set after the American Revolutionary War, when the United States was a very new country. American merchant ships were being attacked at sea.
A Secret Mission Begins
Major Tom Blake, a brave officer from the United States Army, gets a secret mission. The first United States Secretary of State, Thomas Jefferson, asks him to find out who is attacking American ships. Major Blake goes undercover, pretending to be someone named "Brighton."
He boards a ship and meets two passengers, Anne Ridgeway and her brother Sam. They are very patriotic Americans. Major Blake acts like he supports the British, which makes Anne and Sam think he is disloyal.
Facing the Pirates
The attacks on American ships are being carried out by men who work for Yusof, the leader of Tripoli. Tripoli was one of the Barbary states in North Africa.
Major Blake tries to get close to Yusof. He saves Yusof from an assassin's attack. This makes Yusof trust him. Blake then finds the assassin, Zoltah, and tells her his true identity.
To his surprise, Anne is captured by Yusof. She is offered to Blake as a personal servant, as a reward for his bravery. Blake secretly tells Anne that he will not take advantage of her situation.
The Final Battle
Later, Thomas Jefferson becomes the third President of the United States in 1800. He sends another agent, Tobias Sharpe, to help. But what Jefferson doesn't know is that Sharpe is actually a traitor!
Major Blake is captured and sentenced to death. However, he manages to escape just in time. He joins a big battle that finally ends the threat to America. Through all this, he earns the respect and affection of Anne.

How the Film Was Made
Sometimes, people disagree about who came up with a story idea. The writers Jack Pollexen and Aubrey Wisenberg later said that the movie Barbary Pirate was very similar to a script they had given to the producer, Sam Katzman, in 1948. Their script was called Pirate and the Slave Girl.
