Barbie is a fun video game that came out in 1991. It was made by Imagineering and published by Hi Tech Expressions. This game is based on the famous Barbie doll from Mattel Inc. It was created to encourage more girls to play video games.

The game is set in a dream world. Barbie needs to travel through three different places. Her goal is to collect special items. These items are needed for a big dance party. At the party, she hopes to meet Ken. Even though some gamers didn't pay much attention to it back then, many critics thought it was a "not bad" game for its type.

What is the Barbie Video Game About?

Barbie has a dream that she's invited to a fancy Fantasy Ball. But in her dream, she doesn't have anything nice to wear! So, she goes on an adventure to find the perfect accessories. These items will help her get ready for the big night. She also hopes to impress Ken at the ball.

Barbie's Dream Adventure: The Story

As Barbie explores her dream, she meets many friendly animals. She also looks for special items called Dream-Ups, Glamor Items, and Charms. These charms fit on her bracelet and help her along the way.

Mall World Shopping Spree

First, Barbie visits Mall World. Here, she goes on a shopping spree. She collects Barbie coins. She uses these coins at a wishing fountain. This helps her get a beautiful pink ball gown.

Underwater Pearl Hunt

Next, Barbie becomes Mermaid Barbie in Underwater World. With the help of friendly dolphins, she searches for shiny pearls. She gives these pearls to a giant oyster. In return, she receives an elegant pearl ring.

Soda Shop Gold Records

Finally, Barbie travels to a 1950s-style Soda Shop. In this world, she must collect gold records. She uses these records to build a stairway into the sky. At the top, she finds the last accessory: a charming pair of sparkly high heels.

After collecting everything, Barbie returns to her Barbie Dream House. She gets ready for the Fantasy Ball. As she walks down the stairs, wearing all her new accessories, a dashing Ken is waiting to dance with her!

How to Play: Gameplay Basics

Unlike many other Barbie games, this one is a platformer. This means Barbie jumps and runs across different platforms. Each level in the game is like a "dream." Barbie moves from left to right. She must avoid obstacles to keep her "Zs" from dropping. If her "Zs" (which represent her sleep) drop too low, she wakes up. This means she has to restart the level, or sometimes even the whole game!

Avoiding Obstacles and Using Charms

Barbie can ask animals for help. She does this by choosing a charm on her charm bracelet. Each charm signals a different action for an animal. When you press the B-button, Barbie throws the command. If the command reaches the animal, it will do what you asked. The enemies in the game are usually everyday objects. These include tennis rackets, kites, shoes, pizza, water, and popcorn. Barbie must jump over them to avoid them.

Facing Dream Bosses

At the end of each section, Barbie faces a boss battle. To defeat the boss, she usually needs the help of one of her animal friends.
