Barbie in A Mermaid Tale 2 is an exciting animated adventure movie from 2012. It's the sequel to Barbie in A Mermaid Tale. In this film, Barbie, voiced by Kelly Sheridan, returns as Merliah. She is a surfing champion who is also a mermaid princess! The movie was released on DVD in February and March 2012.

The Story of Merliah's Adventure

Surfing and Royal Duties

A year after her first big adventure, Merliah Summers is a super cool surfing champion. She's competing in a big surf competition. Merliah wins her first round, just beating her rival, Kylie Morgan. Both girls get to go to the finals in Australia!

Merliah uses her special necklace to become a mermaid. She tells her mom, Queen Calissa, the good news. Queen Calissa is getting ready for a very important event. It's called the Changing of Tides Ceremony. This ceremony happens every twenty years. It makes the next princess of Oceana an official royal family member. Calissa expects Merliah to be there. But the surfing finals are on the same day! This causes a big argument between them.

Kylie's Choice and Eris's Return

The next surf heats are in Australia. Kylie beats Merliah this time. She bumps Merliah's surfboard on purpose. Even so, Merliah's cool handstand trick gets attention. A woman named Georgie Majors asks Merliah to be a spokesperson for a surf brand.

That night, Merliah is at a party for a photoshoot. Kylie is approached by a fish named Alistair. He tells her Merliah has special powers. Alistair convinces Kylie to steal Merliah's necklace. Merliah had taken it off for the photoshoot. Kylie gets the necklace and puts it on. She turns into a mermaid!

Alistair then leads Kylie underwater. They go to a deep trench where Eris is still trapped. Eris is the evil mermaid from the first movie. Snouts, the sea lion, sees everything. Alistair and Eris trick Kylie. Kylie enters the whirlpool, taking Eris's place. This frees Eris!

Saving Oceana

Snouts rushes back to Merliah. Merliah has been looking for her necklace. Even without it, Merliah can still breathe underwater. She follows Snouts to the trench. Merliah frees Kylie from the whirlpool. The whirlpool then breaks apart. Kylie is thankful and says sorry for stealing the necklace.

When Kylie takes off the necklace, her tail turns back to legs. She can't breathe underwater anymore! Merliah quickly gives the necklace back to Kylie. This saves Kylie from drowning. Kylie then promises to help Merliah stop Eris.

Eris and Alistair head to Aquellia. Eris wants to perform the Changing of Tides ceremony herself. On the way, they meet big fish called Stargazers. Eris threatens them with a new spell. This spell makes people's worst fears come true. The Stargazers agree to obey her.

They reach Aquellia. Queen Calissa and the ocean ambassadors are waiting. Eris casts her spell on Calissa. Calissa's tail becomes heavy. It drags her to the bottom of the ocean. Eris also traps the ambassadors.

Merliah, Kylie, and Snouts find Calissa. Calissa and Merliah apologize to each other. Calissa can't move because of the spell. Merliah decides to perform the ceremony instead. She knows this means she will have a tail forever.

Merliah, Kylie, Zuma, and Snouts go to Aquellia. They get past the Stargazers and free the ambassadors. Merliah gets to the throne just in time. But she has legs, so it doesn't work! Kylie quickly passes the necklace to Merliah. The ceremony is completed! This undoes all of Eris's spells. Merliah gets a new tail.

Eris tries to stop Merliah. She tries to trap Merliah in her worst fear. But Merliah blocks the spell. She sends it back to Eris! Eris gets legs, which is her worst fear. The ambassadors then take Eris away to imprison her for good.

A Happy Ending

Merliah, Calissa, and Kylie swim to the surface. They make it just in time for the surf finals. Calissa gives Kylie the magical necklace. Kylie proved she could be trusted with it. Merliah had accepted her duty as a mermaid. But she wished she could be human again. Her legs magically return by themselves!

Calissa explains that the ceremony turns someone into their true self. Merliah's true self is both mermaid and human. Kylie and Merliah join the competition together. Merliah gets distracted by a new ability. She can create "Merillia" when she touches the water. Kylie wins the competition! She is offered to be a spokesperson for Wave Crest. Kylie brings Merliah on stage. They hold the trophy together.

• Merliah Summers (Kelly Sheridan): The main hero of the story. She is a surfing champion who is half human and half mermaid. She is the princess of Oceana. Merliah has a cool orange and pink tail. She is a sassy, modern girl who loves to win. She is also a brave and strong princess of the underwater kingdom.
• Queen Calissa (Nicole Oliver): Merliah's mother and the Queen of Oceana. She is a mermaid with a blue and yellow tail. She is fair and brave. Her biggest fear is not being able to swim.
• Eris (Kathleen Barr): The main bad guy. She is an evil mermaid with an orange tail. She was trapped in a whirlpool at the end of the first movie. Eris is Calissa's younger sister and Merliah's aunt. She wants to take over the throne. She uses a new spell to make people's worst nightmares come true. Her own worst nightmare is having legs.
• Zuma (Tabitha St. Germain): A pink, sparkly dolphin who is Merliah's friend.
• Snouts (Kathleen Barr): A helpful sea lion who is Merliah's friend. He belongs to Kayla and Xylie.
• Fallon Casey (Nakia Burrise): One of Merliah's best friends. She is a talented surfer who is great on the waves.
• Hadley (Maryke Hendrikse): Another one of Merliah's best friends. She is a bit quirky but a very good surfer.
• Break Summers (Garry Chalk): Merliah's grandfather on her dad's side. Her dad was human.
• Kylie Morgan (Ashleigh Ball): Introduced in this film. She is an Australian surfer and Merliah's biggest rival. She gets tricked into freeing Eris. But in the end, she teams up with Merliah to save the ocean. They become friends. As a mermaid, she has a purple tail.
• Ambassador Mirabella (Britt Irvin): One of the ambassadors of Oceana. She likes big spaces. Her worst fear is being trapped in small places. She is from Brazil.
• Ambassador Kattrin (Kira Tozer): One of the ambassadors of Oceana. She likes to be fast. Her worst fear is being slow. She is from South Korea.
• Ambassador Selena (Barbara Tyson): One of the ambassadors of Oceana. She cares a lot about how she looks. Her worst fear is being ugly. She is from Russia.
• Ambassador Renata (Bethany Brown): One of the ambassadors of Oceana. She is very confident. She doesn't seem scared of anything. Her worst fear is being unconfident and shy. She is from Africa.
