Barney is a small, unincorporated community in Brooks County, Georgia. It is located in the southern part of the United States. Even though it's not an official town anymore, Barney still has its own post office with the ZIP code 31625. You can find Barney where two state roads, Highway 76 and Highway 122, meet.

The Story of Barney

Barney got its name in 1897. It was named after a company called the Barney & Smith Car Company. This happened when the railroad first came through the area. A post office opened in Barney in 1897, and it's still there today!

In 1903, the state of Georgia made Barney an official town. This is called "incorporating" a town. It meant Barney had its own local government. But in 1995, Barney, along with many other small towns in Georgia, was officially "dissolved." This means it stopped being an official town with its own government. Now, it's an "unincorporated community."

Getting Around Barney

Two main highways help people travel through Barney. One is Highway 122. It connects Barney to other places like Thomasville, Pattern, Pavo, Hahira, and Lakeland.

The other important road is Highway 76, also known as Adel Highway. This highway goes through Greenville, Florida, Quitman, Morven, Barney, Adel, and Nashville.
