Pavo is a small city in the state of Georgia, in the United States. It is unique because it sits right on the border between two counties: Brooks County and Thomas County. In 2020, about 622 people lived there.

Pavo is also part of the larger Valdosta Metropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's connected to a bigger group of towns and cities around Valdosta. The city has its own branch of the Thomas County Public Library System, where you can find books and resources.

Famous country music singer Alan Jackson even featured Pavo in his music video for the song "Little Man." The song talks about how small towns in America are changing.

The Story Behind Pavo's Name

The community of Pavo was not always called Pavo. It was first known as McDonald. This name came from one of the important families living in the area at the time.

However, there was a problem: mail often got mixed up! People in McDonald would sometimes get mail meant for McDonough, another town in Georgia located further north. To fix this confusion, the town decided to change its name.

The new name, Pavo, was chosen in honor of an early postmaster named Duncan D. Peacock. The word "Pavo" is actually a Latin word that means "peacock." So, the town's name is a clever nod to its past and a person who helped its mail service!

Where is Pavo Located?

Pavo is located at specific geographic coordinates: 30.960341 degrees North latitude and -83.739352 degrees West longitude. This helps pinpoint its exact spot on a map.

Another important road, Georgia State Route 33, heads north from Pavo as Robert Street towards Moultrie. If you go south on this road, it becomes County Line Road and leads to towns like Barwick and Boston.

The United States Census Bureau has measured Pavo's total area. It covers about 1.8 square miles (or 4.57 square kilometers), and almost all of this area is land.
