Barrancas is a special kind of neighborhood called a barrio. It is located in the town of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 5,234 people lived there.
History of Barrancas
Puerto Rico became part of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the U.S.
In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This was part of a census. At that time, 692 people lived in the Barrancas barrio. The population has grown a lot since then!
