Barron Miles (born January 1, 1972) is a well-known American football player and coach. He played for 12 years in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a defensive back. He is famous for having 66 career interceptions, which is tied for second all-time in the CFL. He also holds the record for the most blocked kicks in CFL history with 13.
After his playing career, Miles became a coach. He is currently the defensive backs coach for the Calgary Stampeders. He has also been a defensive coordinator for other CFL teams like the Montreal Alouettes and Ottawa Redblacks. In 2018, he was honored by being inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

Early Life and High School Football
Barron Miles grew up in Roselle, New Jersey. He started playing football early, showing his skills in both offense and defense at Abraham Clark High School.
College Football Career
Miles became a top player at the University of Nebraska. He was known as one of the best cornerbacks and special teams players in the school's history. In 1994, he helped his team win the NCAA college football national championship. This was a very special win for their coach, Tom Osborne.
Miles earned special honors in 1993 and 1994, being named All-Big Eight. He is still one of Nebraska's top players for breaking up passes. He also set a school record by blocking seven punts during his time there.
Professional Football Journey
Miles was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1995. However, a serious knee injury during a preseason game stopped him from playing for the team that year. He later played for the Frankfurt Galaxy in NFL Europa in 1997.
Joining the CFL
In 1998, Miles joined the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL. He quickly made a big impression, winning the Frank M. Gibson Trophy for the CFL East Division Rookie of the Year Award. He played seven seasons with Montreal and was named a CFL All-Star three times (1999, 2000, 2002).
In 2005, Miles moved to the BC Lions. He became their starting safety, playing almost every game. That year, he was named to the CFL West Division All-Star team. He also led the Lions with six interceptions, which was fourth best in the entire CFL.
Championships and Records
The 2006 season was a huge year for Miles. He led the CFL with 10 interceptions, returning two of them for touchdowns. He also made 39 tackles, forced three fumbles, and recovered one.
In the 2006 CFL West Division Championship game, Miles had a blocked kick and a quarterback sack. He then helped the Lions win the Grey Cup Championship against his former team, the Montreal Alouettes.
On August 7, 2009, Miles set a new CFL record. He blocked an extra point against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, making him the CFL's all-time leader in blocked kicks with 13. He finished his playing career as a five-time CFL All-Star with 66 interceptions.
Coaching Career Highlights
After retiring as a player, Miles started coaching. He began as a defensive backs coach for a senior varsity team in 2009.
He spent 11 years as an assistant defensive coach and defensive backs coach for four different CFL teams. In 2021, he became the defensive coordinator for the Montreal Alouettes. He stayed in that role until July 2022.
In August 2022, Miles became the defensive coordinator for the Bishop's Gaiters. On December 5, 2022, he was hired by the Ottawa Redblacks as their defensive coordinator, a role he held for two seasons.
Most recently, on December 16, 2024, Miles was named the defensive backs coach for the Calgary Stampeders.
