Bashful Peak is a tall mountain located in Alaska, a state in the United States. You can find it within Chugach State Park. Standing at 8,005 feet (2,440 meters) high, Bashful Peak is the tallest mountain in Chugach State Park. It is also the highest point in the entire Municipality of Anchorage. This impressive peak is covered in snow all year round. It even has several small glaciers clinging to its steep western side.

Why is it Called Bashful Peak?

This mountain got its unique name in 1958. Members of the Mountaineering Club of Alaska chose the name "Bashful Peak" because the mountain often seems to hide. It is frequently covered by other nearby peaks, ridges, or clouds, making it hard to see. It's like the mountain is a bit shy!

Climbing Bashful Peak

Climbing Bashful Peak is a very difficult challenge. It is not a climb for beginners. The mountain is very tall and has loose rocks, which can make climbing tricky. It is also in a remote area, meaning it's far from towns and help. The weather in the Chugach Mountains can be very unpredictable. Snowstorms can happen at any time of the year, adding to the challenge.

How Do Climbers Reach the Summit?

Very few people visit Bashful Peak, and there are no marked trails directly up the mountain. Climbers usually begin their journey at the Eklutna Lake trailhead. From there, they hike along the East fork of the Eklutna River. Next, they start climbing a section called Stivers Gully on a nearby mountain, Bold Peak. After leaving the gully, they cross a small valley. Finally, they climb Bashful Peak using its southern ridge to reach the top.
