History of Bawlf
Bawlf started because of the Canadian Pacific Railway building tracks across the prairies. The land for the community was first mapped out in 1905. The first train arrived in 1906. By 1909, trains were regularly carrying passengers and goods between Edmonton and Winnipeg.
The Province of Alberta officially made Bawlf a village on October 12, 1906. At first, an overseer managed the community. Then, in 1908, the first village council was elected. The first council members were R. H. Anderson, P. O. Paulson, and Edwin C. Hardy. In 1913, a fire sadly destroyed five businesses in the village.
In 1937, Bawlf built a curling facility. A new curling building was constructed in 1955-1956. It was rented out for a few years before finally opening for curling in 1962. The next year, an artificial ice machine was added, making it even better for curling.
