Bayamón barrio-pueblo is a special area in Bayamón, a city in Puerto Rico. It's like the main downtown part of the city. This area is the administrative center, meaning it's where the city's government buildings are located. In 2010, about 4,746 people lived here.
In Puerto Rico, it's common for a city to have a central area called a pueblo. This area usually has a main plaza (or square), the city hall, and a Catholic church. Many cities in Puerto Rico still follow this tradition from when Spain ruled the island. Every year, special celebrations called Fiestas patronales (patron saint festivals) are held in the central plaza.

The Central Plaza and Its Church
The central plaza is a lively spot in Bayamón barrio-pueblo. It's a place where people can gather, relax, and have fun. You'll often see people socializing there from morning until night.
Purpose of the Plaza
Back in the early 1800s, Spanish laws called the Laws of the Indies guided how towns in Puerto Rico were built. These laws said that the plaza should be "a good place for parties" (meaning celebrations and festivals). They also said the plaza should be big enough for all the people living nearby. These rules also made sure that the streets around the plaza had comfortable walkways. These walkways would protect people from the sun and rain.
The Church of Santa Cruz
Right across from the central plaza in Bayamón barrio-pueblo is the Parroquia Invención de la Santa Cruz church. The first church building was made of wood in 1772. Later, a second church was built using stronger materials like stone. This second church was damaged by an earthquake in 1867. Luckily, it was repaired the very next year, in 1868.
History of Bayamón Pueblo
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under the rules of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
Population Changes Over Time
In 1899, the United States Department of War took a count of the people in Puerto Rico. At that time, the population of Bayamón Pueblo was 2,218. The number of people living in Bayamón Pueblo has changed over the years. Here's a look at the population from different census counts:
