Bayard is a small, unincorporated community located in Allen County, Kansas, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. It's a quiet place, part of the larger area of Allen County.
History of Bayard
In 1910, Bayard was a busy spot. It had a station for the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railroad. This railroad helped people and goods travel. Bayard also had a post office where you could send and receive money orders. This was very useful for people living in the area.
There was also an express office, which helped send packages quickly. Many small shops, called "mercantile interests," served the local farmers. Bayard was a key place for shipping farm products from the surrounding area. About 50 people lived there in 1910.
A post office first opened in a nearby place called Front in June 1886. But it moved to Bayard in August 1887. The Bayard post office stayed open for many years. It finally closed down in April 1943.
