Brittnee Moore, known professionally as bbymutha, is an American rapper. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a city in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Her first full-length album, called Muthaland, was released in 2020.

Growing Up in Chattanooga

Brittnee Moore was born and grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Her mother raised her, and her family was very religious. Brittnee also has a younger brother.

During her school years, Brittnee faced some challenges. She sometimes felt like an outsider and was bullied. When she was 12, she moved to Pensacola with her mother.

Brittnee loved writing from a young age. She started writing poetry in fourth grade. She also became interested in music and performing. This happened after she won a dance competition with her cousins in elementary school. She began rapping when she was in tenth grade.

Her Music Journey

Brittnee started sharing her songs on SoundCloud. She first used the stage name Cindyy Kushh when she was about 17 or 18 years old. Later, she changed her stage name to bbymutha. This name was inspired by a personal experience related to motherhood.

After working in stores and call centers for several years, Brittnee had her second set of twins. She had moved to Nashville to study fashion design. During this time, she faced challenges in her personal life that led her to take a break from music.

After her twins were born, Brittnee moved back to Chattanooga. She then returned to rapping. In December 2015, she released a short music collection called an EP, titled Weave.

Becoming Well-Known

In December 2016, Brittnee released another EP called Glow Kit. This EP was recognized as one of the best releases on Bandcamp in 2017.

In 2017, the song "Rules" from the Glow Kit EP was released as a single. The music video for "Rules" came out in August on YouTube. The video quickly became very popular. This helped Brittnee gain attention from famous R&B singers like SZA and Kehlani. The song was even played by the artist Björk in one of her DJ sets. It was also featured in FADER magazine's list of the "101 best songs of 2017." Later, in 2019, "Rules" was included in the soundtrack for the TV show Ramy on Hulu.

In 2018, Brittnee released three more EPs. Muthaz Day 2 came out in January 2018. This was followed by BbyShoe in February 2018, which received good reviews. In May 2018, she released a surprise EP called Free Brittnee. Brittnee also performed at Pride Toronto in June 2018.

Another one of her songs, "Indian Hair," from her 2015 EP Weave, was featured in the second season of the Netflix show Dear White People.

New Music and Business

On August 28, 2020, after some delays, Brittnee's first full-length album, Muthaland, was finally released. She shared that making the album had been stressful. The album received positive reviews from music critics. They praised her lyrics and creativity. Pitchfork magazine gave the album a high rating of 8.0.

After this, Brittnee started her own business called Mutha Magick Apothecary. She sells products like soaps, candles, and essential oils.

What Inspires Her Music

Brittnee has said that rapper Gucci Mane is her biggest musical inspiration. She also looks up to other Southern hip hop artists like Trina, La Chat, and Gangsta Boo.

She describes her music as being influenced by her life growing up in Chattanooga. Her religious upbringing in Tennessee, which is part of the "Bible Belt," also influences her music.

Brittnee is also known for her colorful fashion style. She often wears different wigs. She has named Jimi Hendrix, Lil Kim, and Kelis as her style inspirations.
