Beacon Fell is a small but mighty hill, known as a 'fell', located in the beautiful Lake District in England. It stands at about 255 meters (836 feet) tall. Even though it's not one of the tallest fells, it offers amazing views of the surrounding area. It was even featured in a famous book by Alfred Wainwright, who loved exploring these hills!

Exploring Beacon Fell

Beacon Fell is found in the southern part of the Lake District. It's part of a group of hills called the Blawith Fells. You can find it to the west of the bottom end of Coniston Water, a well-known lake in the area.

Getting There

You can reach Beacon Fell by following quiet paths. These paths start from the main road that runs between Water Yeat and Torver. A popular way to climb the fell, as described by Alfred Wainwright, starts from a place called Brown Howe.

The Journey to the Top

When you hike up Beacon Fell, you'll pass over its highest point. After that, you can walk down to a small lake called Beacon Tarn. This tarn is also visited on another one of Wainwright's walks, the Woodland Fell route. The path then continues on the western side of the fell, following part of the Cumbria Way.

Amazing Views

Even though Beacon Fell is not very high, it offers incredible views all around! From the top, you can see the impressive Coniston Fells. You can also look out over the sparkling waters of Coniston Water. On a clear day, you might even spot the distant Morecambe Bay. It's a great spot to enjoy the natural beauty of the Lake District.
