Erigeron ursinus is a type of flowering plant in the daisy family. It is commonly known as the Bear River fleabane. This plant grows naturally in the western United States. You can find it from Montana and Idaho all the way south to Arizona and New Mexico.
What is Bear River Fleabane?
The Bear River fleabane is a small plant that comes back every year. It usually grows to be less than 8 centimeters (about 3 inches) tall. This plant has special underground stems called rhizomes. It also has a branching underground part called a caudex.
How Does It Grow?
Erigeron ursinus loves sunny spots. It often grows in areas with sagebrush. You can also find it in open coniferous woodlands, which are forests with cone-bearing trees like pines.
Its Flowers
Each stem of the Bear River fleabane has only one flower head. These flower heads are made up of many tiny flowers. Around the outside, there are 14 to 30 ray florets. These can be white, pink, or purple. In the center, there are many yellow disc florets.
