Beatty is a small community in Klamath County, Oregon, in the United States. It's not a city with its own government, but a place where people live and work. Beatty is located where the Sycan River and Sprague River meet. It's about 40 miles (64 km) northeast of Klamath Falls.
The community got its name from J. L. Beatty. He was a missionary who lived in the area a long time ago. This was when the land was part of the Klamath Indian Reservation. Beatty got its own post office in 1913. Its ZIP code is 97621. A famous person named Toby "Winema" Riddle is buried near Beatty. She was a Modoc woman who helped during the Modoc War.
History of Beatty's Railway
Beatty once had a train station. This station was part of the Oregon, California and Eastern Railway. By 1927, this railway line connected Klamath Falls to Bly. A train schedule from 1941 shows Beatty as the 13th stop east of Klamath Falls. It was located between the communities of Sprague River and Sycan.
From Railway to Trail
After 1990, the train tracks near Beatty were no longer used for trains. Instead, they became part of a special path called a rail trail. This trail is known as the OC&E Woods Line State Trail. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department now takes care of it. People can use this trail for walking, biking, and enjoying nature.
