Discover Beaumont: A Belgian City
Beaumont is a place with a rich history and interesting landmarks. It's a great spot to learn about old castles and how cities grow over time.
Where is Beaumont?
Beaumont is found in the southern part of Belgium. It is part of the French-speaking region of Wallonia. Its location near the French border has made it an important place for centuries. The city is known for its quiet charm and historical buildings.
The Amazing Tour Salamandre
One of the most famous landmarks in Beaumont is the Tour Salamandre. This tower is very old, dating back to the 11th century. It was once part of a much larger castle called the Château de Beaumont. This castle was the home of the powerful Croÿ family. Today, the Tour Salamandre is the only part of the original castle that still stands. You can visit it and see exhibits about the town's history. It's like stepping back in time!
A Castle with a Story
The old castle itself has a fascinating past. A famous historical figure, Napoleon Bonaparte, even spent a night there in 1815. This was just before the famous Battle of Waterloo. Today, the castle building is split into two parts. One part is now the town hall, where local government works. The other part is a Catholic secondary school called Paridaens. It's pretty cool that a building with so much history is still used today!
