Beaver Creek has an important history in the early settlement of Ohio. Pioneer settlers arrived in this area around 1810. They created the "Beaver Creek Settlement." This settlement later helped the village of Amherst grow.

The settlers who came to this area were from a place called Beaver Falls in Pennsylvania. They named the creek "Beaver Creek" to honor their old home. It's not certain if many beavers actually lived in the creek at that time.

Before these pioneers arrived, the creek had a different name. It was known as the "Riviere en Grys." This name likely came from early French explorers or traders.
