A Look at Beavercreek's Past
The name "Beaver Creek" was first used for a school district in this area in the early 1850s. The community got its name from a creek that flows through it and into the Willamette River.
A post office served the area for many years. In 1922, its name was officially changed to Beavercreek. This is the name still used today. Beavercreek has its own ZIP code, which is 97004.
Becoming a Hamlet
In 2006, the people of Beavercreek voted to become Oregon's first "hamlet." A hamlet is a type of small community with a special kind of local government. This system is used in Clackamas County.
The county officially recognized Beavercreek as "The Hamlet of Beavercreek" in September 2006. The hamlet holds regular community meetings. These meetings often take place at the Beavercreek Grange hall. Larger "town hall" meetings are held quarterly in different places to allow more people to attend.

Places to Visit and See
The Historic Miller House
Around 1900, the Miller family built a farmhouse in Beavercreek. This house was later moved to save it from being torn down. Today, it is being restored by local residents.
The Miller House is special because it was the childhood home of Ava Helen Miller. She later married Linus Pauling. Linus Pauling was a very famous scientist who won two Nobel Prizes all by himself. He won one for chemistry in 1954 and another for peace in 1962.
The Birthplace of Geocaching
Beavercreek is famous for being the place where geocaching began! Geocaching is like a treasure hunt using a GPS device. People hide containers (called "caches") and share their GPS coordinates online. Others then use their own GPS devices to find them.
The very first time someone officially hid a GPS-located cache was on May 3, 2000. It was hidden by Dave Ulmer, who lived in Beavercreek, just a few miles west of the community.
