History of Beckom Village
How Beckom Got Its Name
The name Beckom comes from a settler's wife. Early settlers often named places after people or features of the land. This tradition helped new communities feel connected to their history and the people who helped build them.
The Railway's Role in Beckom's Growth
Beckom began to grow when the railway line opened in 1908. Railways were super important back then. They helped transport goods like crops and livestock to bigger towns and cities. They also made it easier for people to travel. The railway station in Beckom was a busy place for many years.
Passenger trains stopped running in 1983. The station itself closed in 1985. However, the railway tracks are still used today. Goods trains continue to pass through Beckom, carrying important supplies and products across the region.
Beckom's Post Office Service
The Beckom Post Office opened its doors on January 4, 1909. Post offices were vital for communication. They allowed people to send letters, receive parcels, and connect with the outside world. The Post Office served the community for many years before closing in 1993.
