Beenleigh Rum is one of Australia's oldest brands that makes a type of spirit called rum. It is produced at the special, old Beenleigh Rum Distillery in a place called Eagleby, which is part of the City of Logan in Queensland, Australia.

The Beenleigh Rum products are made in Australia. They use local ingredients like molasses from Queensland. The distillery has different areas for mixing, bottling, and storing the products. It also has offices and even a bar and restaurant. The distillery is located right next to the Albert River, making it a well-known spot in the area.

The Beenleigh Rum Distillery is the oldest registered distillery in Australia. It is a rare example of the early sugar industry in the country. The distillery started operating in 1884. Before that, its beginnings were linked to a floating still (a device used to make spirits) called the SS Walrus. This boat would move between sugar cane farms to avoid police in the early 1800s.

The original owner, James Stewart, sold the boat's still to local business people. They used it to start the Beenleigh Rum Distillery. For many years, between 1981 and 2005, the distillery had a museum. This museum showed how sugar and rum were made in the Beenleigh area. Later, the old stills, vats, and photos were moved to the Beenleigh Historical Village.

Changes in Ownership

During the 1960s and 1970s, Beenleigh Rum was very popular and sold more than its biggest competitor, Bundaberg Rum. However, over time, it became less popular and was sold to different owners. Each new owner sometimes changed the brand's look.

In 2000, a person named Stuart Gilbert helped bring the brand back to life. He bought the brand name and worked with Malcolm Campbell, an experienced distiller. In 2003, the Beenleigh Rum brand name was sold to Vok Beverages. This company is part of Bickford's Australia, a beverage company based in Adelaide. Stuart Gilbert sold the brand completely in 2007.

In May 2012, Vok Beverages bought the Beenleigh Distillery itself. This brought the brand and the place where it's made back together. Today, Beenleigh Rum is still produced at the Beenleigh Distillery. They use traditional pot distillation methods, just like it was made for many years in Australia.

Other Products from the Distillery

The Beenleigh Rum Distillery also produces another product called Inner Circle Rum. This product used to be very exclusive. It was only for the board of directors of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company and a few special clients. Even they only received a bottle now and then.

Even though it was hard to get, people heard about Inner Circle's special flavour. It became famous among rum fans around the world. Inner Circle Rum was not made for a while after CSR sold the brand in 1986.
