Belfry Witches was a fun British TV show for families. It aired on BBC One during the CBBC slot. The show ran for about a year, from September 1999 to November 2000. It had 13 episodes in total.
About Belfry Witches
This show was all about two witches named Skirty Marm and Old Noshie. They were played by Laura Sadler and Lucy Davis. These witches got into lots of trouble! They had to leave their home on Witch Island. So, they moved to a quiet English village called Tranter's End.
The Story and Characters
Skirty Marm and Old Noshie lived in a church belfry. This is why the show was called 'Belfry Witches'. They caused mischief wherever they went.
The show followed their adventures in the village. They met different people. One was Chris Tucker, the friendly church caretaker. He was played by Scott Charles. There was also a "naughty boy" in the village. Another character was Mrs. Bagg-Meanly, a rather nasty woman. She was played by Paula Jacobs.
The witches also had to deal with the Head Witch, Mrs. Abercrombie. She was played by Jan Harvey. Mrs. Abercrombie was the one who banished Skirty Marm and Old Noshie from Witch Island.
Where the Idea Came From
The TV show was based on a series of children's books. These books were written by the author and journalist Kate Saunders. The stories from the books were brought to life on screen.
The show was eventually stopped. This happened because not enough people were watching it. It was never released on video or DVD.
The Theme Song
The catchy theme song for Belfry Witches was called 'Something Spooky'. It was performed by the all-female pop group Atomic Kitten. This song was released in 1999. You could find it as a B-side on their single called Right Now.
