Laura Ruth Sadler (born 25 December 1980 – died 19 June 2003) was an English actress. She was most famous for playing nurse Sandy Harper in the BBC One hospital drama Holby City.
Laura Sadler's TV Career
Laura Sadler was born in Ascot, Berkshire. She started acting on television when she was a young girl. When she was just 6 years old, the famous actor Dustin Hoffman saw her in a play. He was so impressed that he asked to meet her after the show.
Early Roles and Grange Hill
Before joining Holby City, Laura's most well-known role was as Judi Jeffreys in the popular children's television series Grange Hill. She played this character from 1997 to 1999. In a sad twist, her character in Grange Hill died after falling from a burning building. This was very similar to how Laura sadly passed away four years later in real life.
Laura also played Skirty Marm in a new BBC1 children's comedy called Belfry Witches. In this show, Skirty Marm and her friend Old Noshie (Lucy Davis) were teenage witches. They were sent to Earth from Witch Island and settled in a quiet village, where they often caused trouble.
Joining Holby City
Laura joined the cast of Holby City during its third series. Holby City is a spin-off show from the long-running BBC medical drama Casualty.
Laura's Passing
In the early morning of 15 June 2003, Laura fell 40 feet (about 12 metres) from a balcony of a flat in Holland Park. She suffered very serious head injuries and never woke up. Her family made the difficult decision to remove her from life support on 18 June 2003. She passed away at Charing Cross Hospital the next day.
Laura's pre-recorded episodes of Holby City continued to be shown after her death. Laura's mother helped the show's writers create a storyline for her daughter's character, Sandy, to leave the show. In the episode, which aired in September 2003, Sandy's character won the lottery and moved to Australia.
