Ben went to the Alice Smith School from kindergarten until he was 17. At school, he was part of the swimming team, called KLASS Torpedoes. His coach, Francis Kiu, was a professional Malaysian swimmer. Ben competed in many international swim meets across Southeast Asia. He even won the 50-metre butterfly and came second in the 50-metre freestyle at the Malaysian Open.
In 2011, when Ben was 16, he moved back to England. He wanted to focus on swimming as a career.
