Where is Bendon?

Bendon is located in the eastern part of Inland Township. This is in the eastern area of Benzie County. The eastern edge of Bendon is right next to the border of Grand Traverse County.

How Bendon Started

Bendon began as a small settlement around a sawmill. A sawmill is a place where logs are cut into lumber. The community was first called "Kentville." It was named after Albert Kent, who was a farmer. He became the first postmaster for the area on April 24, 1888.

Kentville also had a train station on the Chicago and West Michigan Railway. This railway is no longer in use today. The post office changed its name to "Bendon" on June 30, 1892. It continued to operate until March 31, 1954.

For the first time, Bendon was officially recognized as a census-designated place for the 2010 census. This means it now has official boundaries and population numbers.
