Sir Benjamin Heywood, 1st Baronet (born December 12, 1793 – died August 11, 1865) was an English banker. He was also a philanthropist, which means he was a kind person who helped others. He is remembered for his work in education and for supporting working people.

Early Life and Family
Benjamin Heywood was born in Manchester on December 12, 1793. His family was quite well-known. His grandfather was Thomas Percival. Benjamin was one of several children born to Nathaniel Heywood and Ann Percival. His brothers, Thomas and James, also became famous. Benjamin lived in a place called "Claremont" near the center of Manchester. He went to college at the University of Glasgow.
A Career in Banking and Helping Others
Benjamin Heywood joined his father's bank. He became a partner in the business in 1814. By 1828, he was the only owner of the bank.
He cared a lot about education for working people. He helped start the Manchester Mechanics' Institute. This was a place where workers could learn new skills. He was the president of this institute from 1825 to 1840.
Heywood also served as a Member of Parliament for Lancashire. This was a short time, from 1831 to 1832. He received a special honor, becoming a Baronet, for his support of the 1832 Reform Bill. This bill helped more people get the right to vote. He was also active in the Manchester Statistical Society, which studied facts and figures about society.
Family Life
The Heywood family had a special connection to the areas of Derbyshire and Staffordshire. They even bought a summer home there. Many streets in the area where Benjamin lived were named after places in Derbyshire.

Honors and Recognition
Sir Benjamin Heywood received several important honors:
