Benllech (pronounced ben-llekh) is a lovely village located on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. It's part of a larger area called Llanfair-Mathafarn-Eithaf, which has about 3,382 people living there. Benllech is well-known as a popular spot for beach holidays and seaside fun.

What Does Benllech Mean?
The name Benllech likely comes from the Welsh words pen (meaning "head") and llech (meaning "slab" or "rock"). So, it could mean "head of the rock" or even "on slate."

This monument is very important because it helps us learn about how people lived in prehistoric times and during the Roman period. Archaeologists believe there are still many hidden clues at the site that can tell us about building methods and the history of the area.

- Goronwy Owen (1723–1769): A famous poet born nearby. Benllech's primary school and village hall are named after him.
- Melville Richards (1910–1973): A scholar who studied the Welsh language and Celtic history. He lived and passed away in Benllech.
- Lemmy Kilmister (1945–2015): The lead singer and bassist of the famous band Motörhead. He lived in Benllech from age 10 to 16.
- Carwyn Ellis (born 1973): The lead singer for the band Colorama. His family eventually settled in Benllech.
Getting to Benllech
Benllech is easy to reach! It's about 8 miles along the A5025 coast road from the bridges that connect Anglesey to mainland Wales.
If you prefer trains, the nearest main train station is Llanfairpwll. You can get there by bus in under half an hour or by car in less than 20 minutes.
The cities of Bangor and Caernarfon are also less than a 30-minute drive away. The postal code for the area is LL74.
Exciting Events in Benllech
In 1956, Benllech hosted a very large sailing championship. The West Kirby Sailing Club and the National Firefly Association worked together to organize it. There were 109 boats competing, with two people in each boat, making a total of 218 competitors! Many people stayed in tents, and a big tent was set up for evening entertainment, including a dinner and prize-giving ceremony on the last night.
