Benson is a small town located in Hamilton County, New York, United States. It's found on the southern edge of Hamilton County, a bit northwest of the city of Schenectady. In 2020, the town had a population of 221 people. The person in charge of the town government is currently John M. Stortecky, who is the Town Supervisor.
History of Benson
Benson became a town in 1860. It was created from parts of two other towns: Hope and Mayfield. Mayfield is now part of Fulton County. A long time ago, Benson even had an iron mine.
Geography of Benson
Benson covers a total area of about 215.5 square kilometers (which is about 83.2 square miles). Most of this area is land, with only a small part (about 1.5 square kilometers or 0.58 square miles) being water.
The Sacandaga River flows along part of the town's southeastern border. The southern border of Benson is also the border of Fulton County. New York State Route 30, a main road, goes through the southeastern corner of Benson.
