Bento Costa Lima Leite de Albuquerque Júnior, born on August 3, 1958, is a Brazilian admiral. He served as the Minister of Mines and Energy for Brazil. This important role involves managing the country's energy and mining resources.

Bento Albuquerque's Career Journey

Joining the Navy

Bento Albuquerque began his career in 1973 when he joined the Brazilian Navy. Over the years, he held many different positions within this important institution. His journey shows a strong commitment to serving his country.

International Peacekeeping Work

He worked as a military observer for the United Nations (UN). This meant he helped with UN peacekeeping missions. He served in places like Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Dubrovnik in the former Yugoslavia. These missions aim to help keep peace in areas affected by conflict.

Leading Naval Operations

Bento Albuquerque also held key leadership roles in the Navy. He was the Commander of the Submarine Base Admiral Castro e Silva. Later, he became the Commander-in-Chief of the Squad. He also served as the Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation for the Brazilian Navy.

Focus on Technology and Development

In 2006, he led the Technology Division of the Staff. This division later became the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Navy. From 2007 to 2008, he worked closely with the Navy Commander's office. He helped with important agreements for the Submarine Development Program (Prosub) between France and Brazil. This program was about building new submarines.

Rising Through the Ranks

After these roles, Albuquerque became the Commander of the Submarine Force. He also served as the Chief of Staff for the Navy Commander. In 2016, he led the General Directory of Nuclear and Technological Development of the Navy. This shows his deep involvement in advanced naval technology.

Becoming a Government Minister

Eventually, Bento Albuquerque took on a new challenge. He became the Minister of Mines and Energy. In this role, he was responsible for Brazil's energy supply and mining activities. He served in this position from January 1, 2019, to May 11, 2022.

Health Update

On March 18, 2020, Bento Costa Lima tested positive for COVID-19. He recovered from the illness.
