Benton Creek is a cool stream located in the state of Missouri, USA. It flows through three different counties: Phelps, Dent, and Crawford. This creek is an important part of the beautiful Ozarks region, known for its hills and forests.

Where Benton Creek Begins

Every stream has a starting point, called its headwaters. For Benton Creek, its journey begins in the northern part of Dent County. You can find its very first trickles just north of a small place called Bangert. It also starts near a road known as Missouri Route JJ.

Its Journey North

From its beginning, Benton Creek gently winds its way north. As it flows, it enters the southwestern part of Crawford County. Here, it passes underneath another road, Missouri Route YY, which is west of Cook Station.

The creek keeps moving north, getting bigger as it goes. It soon meets up with another stream called the West Fork Benton Creek. This fork flows in from Phelps County and joins Benton Creek, adding more water to its flow. Finally, Benton Creek reaches its destination, joining the larger Meramec River.

Why the Name?

Benton Creek got its name from a local family who lived in the area a long time ago. It's common for natural features like creeks and rivers to be named after people or families important to the region's history.
