Benton Township is one of eleven townships in Monroe County, Indiana, United States. A township is a type of local government area. In 2010, about 3,358 people lived here, and there were 1,716 homes.

History of Benton Township
Benton Township was first created in 1833. It was named after Thomas Hart Benton, who was a powerful U.S. Senator from Missouri. A U.S. Senator is a person elected to represent their state in the national government.
In August 1845, Benton Township was split into two parts: Marion Township to the north and a smaller Benton Township to the south. However, in January 1916, these two townships joined back together to form the single Benton Township we know today.

The Honey Creek School is a very old building in the township. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. This means it is recognized as an important historical site that should be preserved.

Benton Township covers a total area of about 56.61 square miles. Most of this area, about 54.92 square miles, is land. The rest, about 1.69 square miles, is water. This means about 97% of the township is land, and nearly 3% is water.
