Beram Kayal (born May 2, 1988) is a former professional football player from Israel. He played as a central midfielder, which means he was in the middle of the field. Beram also played for the Israeli national team from 2008 to 2021. He played in 47 international games for his country.
Kayal started his football journey with Maccabi Haifa in 2002. He made his first professional appearance in 2006 when he was 18. After playing 125 games for Maccabi Haifa, he moved to Celtic in Scotland in 2010. He was even named the Scottish Premier League Player of the Month in January 2011. In 2015, he joined Brighton & Hove Albion. He helped them get promoted to the Premier League for the first time ever. In 2020, Kayal returned to Israel to play for Bnei Sakhnin.

Beram Kayal was born in Jadeidi-Makr, Israel. He grew up in a Muslim-Arab family. He is an Arab-Israeli citizen.
Club Football Journey
Playing for Maccabi Haifa
Kayal began his career as a striker in Maccabi Haifa's youth teams. He scored many goals before becoming a midfielder. In the 2004–05 season, he played for the under-19 team. They won both the League and the Cup. Kayal was named the League's Outstanding Player.
He played his first game for Maccabi Haifa's main team in 2006. He was 17 years old. That win helped Haifa secure their third League title in a row. In the 2006–07 season, he played six games. He also captained the under-19 team to another League and Cup double. He even scored three goals in one game against Beitar Jerusalem.
By the 2007–08 season, Kayal became a regular player. He played 36 games for the first team. He then became a key player, helping his team win the Premier League and the Toto Cup.
Time at Celtic

On July 29, 2010, Kayal signed a four-year contract with Scottish Premier League team Celtic. He was given the number 33 shirt. The transfer fee was about £1.2 million.
Kayal's first game for Celtic was on August 19, 2010, against FC Utrecht. He helped set up the first goal and was named Man of the Match. In September 2010, he had surgery for an injury. He returned to play in December. His strong performances earned him the SPL Player of the Month award for January 2011. Celtic manager Neil Lennon praised him.
On April 9, 2011, Kayal was the team captain for the first time. He scored his first goal for Celtic on April 12, 2011. He scored another goal on May 1, 2011. Later that month, he suffered a fractured wrist and missed the rest of the season.
Kayal captained Celtic again on September 10, 2011. This was while regular captain Scott Brown was injured.
In December 2011, Kayal injured his ankle during a game against Rangers. This injury kept him out of action for over four months. He returned for the last game of the season. In 2012, Kayal played an important role for Celtic in the Scottish League. On October 22, 2013, he scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League against AFC Ajax.
Playing for Brighton & Hove Albion
On January 23, 2015, Kayal joined Brighton & Hove Albion. He signed a two-and-a-half-year deal. He scored in his first game for Brighton on February 7. On August 18, he scored a goal just 14 seconds into a game against Huddersfield Town.
In the 2015–16 season, Brighton almost got promoted automatically. Kayal played 43 games and scored 2 goals. They lost in the playoffs and stayed in the Championship.
On January 7, 2017, Kayal played in his first FA Cup match. He scored in a 2–0 win. On April 17, Brighton won a game that secured their promotion to the Premier League. This was a big moment for the club.
Kayal broke his leg in a friendly game in pre-season. He was out for 10 weeks. He made his Premier League debut on December 13, 2017. Kayal played 18 more Premier League games. He helped Brighton stay in the Premier League by winning against Manchester United.
On September 28, 2018, Kayal signed a new contract until June 2020. He scored his first Premier League goal on October 20, in a 1–0 win against Newcastle United. He played in five FA Cup games, helping Brighton reach the semi-finals. He played 18 league games as Brighton stayed in the Premier League for a third season.
Loan to Charlton Athletic
On August 8, 2019, Kayal joined Championship team Charlton Athletic on loan. He played his first game for them on September 14. His loan ended early in January 2020 due to an injury.
Leaving Brighton
Kayal left Brighton in July 2020 after five and a half years. He played 131 games and scored five goals for the club.
Return to Israel with Bnei Sakhnin
On November 17, 2020, Kayal returned to Israel. He signed a three-year contract with Bnei Sakhnin. They had just been promoted to the Israeli Premier League. He played his first game for them eight days later. On January 30, 2021, he scored his first goal for the club. It was the only goal in a 1–0 win.
International Career
Beram Kayal played many games for the Israel national football team. He made his first international appearance for Israel on September 6, 2008, against Switzerland.
He scored his first international goal on March 26, 2011. It was in a Euro 2012 qualifying game against Latvia.

Kayal was a central midfielder. This means he could play in different roles in the middle of the field. He could be a defensive midfielder, protecting the defenders. He could also be a box-to-box midfielder, helping both defense and attack.
