Beram Kayal (born on 2 May 1988) is a professional footballer from Israel. He plays as a central midfielder for Bnei Sakhnin in the Israeli Premier League. He has also played for the Israeli national team since 2008, earning 47 appearances.
Kayal started his career at Maccabi Haifa in 2002. He made his first professional appearance in 2006 when he was 18. After playing 125 games and scoring eight goals, he moved to Celtic in 2010. He was even named the SPL Player of the Month in January 2011. In January 2015, he joined Brighton & Hove Albion. He helped The Seagulls get promoted to the Premier League for the first time in their history. He also had a loan spell at Charlton Athletic. In November 2020, Kayal returned to Israel to play for Bnei Sakhnin.

Kayal was born in Jadeidi-Makr, Israel. He comes from a Muslim-Arab family and is an Arab-Israeli citizen.
Kayal's Club Journey
Starting at Maccabi Haifa
Kayal began his football journey as a striker in the youth teams of Maccabi Haifa. He scored many goals before changing his role to a midfielder. When he was only 16, he joined the Maccabi Haifa under-19 team. In the 2004–05 season, his team won both the League and the Cup. Kayal was recognized as the League's Outstanding Player.
He played his first senior game for Maccabi Haifa at the end of the 2005–06 season. He was 17 years old when his team won their third League title in a row. In the 2006–07 season, he played six games. He also captained the under-19 team to another League and Cup double. He even scored three goals in one game against Beitar Jerusalem.
By the 2007–08 season, Kayal became a regular player, appearing in 36 matches. He became a key part of the team, helping them win the Premier League and the Toto Cup in later seasons.
During a youth tournament in Italy in 2007, Italian newspapers praised Kayal. They were surprised to learn he was an Arab playing for an Israeli team. They wanted to know more about him after his great performance against Fiorentina.
In the 2009–10 season, Maccabi Haifa lost the Premier League championship on the very last day.
Moving to Celtic

On 29 July 2010, Kayal signed a four-year contract with Celtic, a team in the Scottish Premier League. The transfer fee was reported to be about £1.2 million.
Kayal played his first game for Celtic on 19 August 2010 against FC Utrecht. He made a great start by helping set up the first goal and winning the Man of the Match award. In September 2010, he had surgery for a hernia and was out for three months. He returned to play in December and was back in the starting team for a big game against Rangers in January 2011.
His strong performances earned him the SPL Player of the Month award for January 2011. His manager, Neil Lennon, also praised him. Kayal's determined and competitive style helped his team succeed in his first season in Scotland. On 9 April 2011, Kayal was the team captain in a 1–0 win. He scored his first goal for Celtic on 12 April 2011.
On 28 December 2011, Kayal injured his ankle during a game against Rangers. This injury kept him from playing for over four months. He returned for the last game of the season.
On 22 October 2013, he scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League against AFC Ajax, helping Celtic win 2–1.
Time at Brighton & Hove Albion
On 23 January 2015, Kayal joined Brighton & Hove Albion. He signed a two-and-a-half-year deal. He scored in his first game for Brighton on 7 February, though they lost 3–2. On 18 August, he scored a goal just 14 seconds into a game. Brighton almost won automatic promotion in the 2015-16 season. Kayal played 43 games and scored 2 goals that season.
On 7 January 2017, Kayal played in his first FA Cup match and scored a goal. On 17 April, he played in a game that secured Brighton's promotion to the Premier League. This was a huge achievement for the club.
Kayal broke his leg during a pre-season friendly match in 2017 and was out for 10 weeks. He made his Premier League debut on 13 December 2017. He played in 18 more Premier League games, helping Brighton stay in the league.
On 28 September 2018, Kayal signed a new contract until June 2020. He scored his first Premier League goal on 20 October in a 1–0 win. He played in five FA Cup games, helping Brighton reach the semi-finals in 2019. Kayal played 18 league games as Brighton stayed in the Premier League for a third season.
Loan to Charlton Athletic
On 8 August 2019, Kayal joined Charlton Athletic on a loan for the season. He played his first game for them on 14 September. His loan ended early on 15 January 2020 due to an injury.
Leaving Brighton
Kayal left Brighton in July 2020 after five and a half years. He played 131 games and scored five goals for the club during a very successful period.
Return to Israel with Bnei Sakhnin
On 17 November 2020, Kayal returned to Israel and signed a three-year contract with Bnei Sakhnin. This team had just been promoted to the Israeli Premier League. He played his first game eight days later. He scored his first goal for the club on 30 January 2021, which was the only goal in a 1–0 victory.
Playing for His Country
Kayal has played many games for the Israel national football team. He made his first full international appearance for Israel on 6 September 2008 against Switzerland.
He scored his first goal for Israel on 26 March 2011 in a Euro 2012 qualifying game against Latvia.
How Kayal Plays
Beram Kayal is a central midfielder, but he can play in different ways. He can be a defensive midfielder, protecting the defenders. He can also be a box-to-box midfielder, helping both in defense and attack. While he is known more for his defensive skills, he also helps with attacking plays.
Kayal is a very determined and hardworking midfielder. He is known for his high energy, strong tackles, and competitive spirit. He also has good passing skills and quick feet. Former Israeli footballer Eyal Berkovic once said that Kayal is "Perfect for British football." He added that Kayal is "strong technically, very aware but really competitive."
