Bergün Filisur is a beautiful municipality (which is like a town or district) located in the Albula Region of the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It was formed on January 1, 2018. This happened when the two smaller municipalities of Bergün/Bravuogn and Filisur decided to join together.

A Look Back in Time
How Bergün and Filisur Began
The area of Bergün/Bravuogn was first written about in old documents way back in 1209. Filisur was mentioned a bit later, in 1262. These mentions show that people have lived and worked in these valleys for a very long time.
The Merger of Two Communities
On January 1, 2018, Bergün/Bravuogn and Filisur officially became one new municipality. They joined forces to create Bergün Filisur. This merger helped them work together better for the future.
Geography and Landscape
After the two areas merged, Bergün Filisur now covers a large area of about 190.14 square kilometers (about 73.4 square miles). This makes it a significant part of the Albula Region. The landscape here is very mountainous and scenic, with deep valleys and high peaks.
Population and Growth
The new municipality of Bergün Filisur has a population of about 875 people (as of 2023). Over the years, the number of people living in both Bergün and Filisur changed quite a bit. For example, during the time the Rhaetian Railway was being built, many workers came to the area. This caused the population of both communities to grow a lot.

Filisur experiences a good amount of rain and snow throughout the year. On average, it has about 107.7 days with some form of precipitation. The total amount of precipitation is about 915 millimeters (36 inches) per year.
The wettest month is usually August. During this month, Filisur gets around 123 millimeters (4.8 inches) of rain. It rains for about 11.7 days in August. The driest month is February, with only about 40.4 millimeters (1.6 inches) of precipitation over 6.5 days.
Important Heritage Sites
Bergün Filisur is home to several important historical and cultural sites. These places are protected because they are special to Switzerland's heritage.
- The municipal church in Bergün is a significant building.
- The Chasa Jenatsch and its barn in Bergün are also very old and important.
- In Filisur, you can find the old castle ruins of Greifenstein Castle.
- The famous Schmittentobel-Landwasser Viaduct is also in Filisur. This is a stunning railway bridge.
The villages and small settlements of Bravuogn, Latsch, Stugl, and Filisur are all part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites. This means they are recognized for their special historical value.
The Albula Railway: A World Heritage Site
The Albula Railway itself became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. This is a huge honor! It means the railway is considered important to the whole world. You can learn all about how this amazing railway line was built at the Bahnmuseum Albula. This railway museum is located at the Bergün train station. Both Bergün and Filisur have parts of this famous railway line running through them.
Transportation
Getting around Bergün Filisur is easy thanks to its excellent railway connections. The municipality has three railway stations: Preda, Bergün/Bravuogn, and Filisur. All three of these stations are on the main Albula line. This line offers regular train services to popular places like St. Moritz and Chur.
Filisur is also a special station because it's where the Davos Platz–Filisur line connects. This means you can also catch regular trains from Filisur to Davos Platz.
