Club Career: Bernardo Corradi's Football Journey
Starting Out: Early Football Teams
Bernardo Corradi began his football career in Italy with a team called Siena. At that time, Siena was in a league called Serie C1. After Siena, he moved to Poggibonsi, where he played for two seasons.
In 1996, he joined another team in Tuscany, Ponsacco. A year later, in 1997, he moved to Cagliari. He played only two matches there before being loaned to Montevarchi. A "loan" means a player temporarily plays for another team. The next season, he was loaned again, this time to Andria. In 1999, he returned to Cagliari and played his first game in Italy's top league, Serie A.
Playing for Chievo and Inter Milan
In 2000, Corradi joined Chievo and Inter Milan at the same time. This was a special kind of deal. He started to show his skills as a central forward at Chievo. He used his height well to score goals. He stayed with Chievo for two seasons.
Later, Inter Milan bought him completely. He played only one match for Inter Milan. After a famous player named Ronaldo left Inter, the club signed Hernán Crespo. As part of that deal, Corradi moved to Lazio.
Time at Lazio: Scoring Goals and Winning Cups
At Lazio, Corradi scored in his very first game. He became a strong attacking partner with Claudio López. He scored ten goals in each of his two seasons in the league with Lazio.
He also scored an important goal when Lazio won the Coppa Italia in 2004. This is a big cup competition in Italy. Lazio beat Juventus to win the title.
Moving to Spain: Valencia and Parma Loan
In the summer of 2004, Corradi signed with Valencia in Spain. His teammate from Lazio, Stefano Fiore, also joined Valencia. Corradi started his time at Valencia by winning the UEFA Supercup. This is a match between the winners of two major European club competitions.
However, after his coach Claudio Ranieri left Valencia, Corradi didn't play as much. He then went back to Italy on loan to Parma for the 2005–06 season. He scored ten goals in 36 games for Parma.
Playing in England: Manchester City
In 2006, Corradi moved to England to play for Manchester City. He signed a three-year contract with the Premier League club.
Corradi played his first game for Manchester City against Chelsea. However, he was sent off (given a red card) in that match. It took him 13 games to score his first goals for the club. He scored twice against Fulham in November 2006. This made him the first Italian player to score for Manchester City. Later, he was sent off again in a game against Manchester United.
He scored only three league goals in the 2006–07 season. Because of this, he lost his starting spot. Even though he scored four goals in pre-season games in 2007, he was loaned out to Parma again for the rest of the season. At Parma, he scored five goals in 15 starts and was even made captain in some games.
Back in Italy: Reggina and Udinese
On July 30, 2008, Manchester City let Corradi leave his contract early. He returned to Italy to play for Reggina. He played 30 games and scored 10 goals for them. In May 2009, his contract with Reggina ended.
On July 3, he joined Udinese for free. He mostly played as a substitute for Udinese.
Playing in Canada: Montreal Impact
Corradi made his debut for the Montreal Impact in Canada on March 3, 2012. This was a pre-season game. On March 15, 2012, he officially signed with the team for three months. He scored his first goal in the MLS on April 14, 2012, from a penalty kick.
Montreal Impact released Corradi from his contract on December 7, 2012.
International Career: Playing for Italy
Bernardo Corradi played for the Italian national team 13 times between 2003 and 2004. He scored two goals for his country.
He was first called up to the national team in February 2003. He scored the only goal in his first game, a 1–0 win against Portugal. He was chosen to be part of Italy's team for Euro 2004. He played in one game during the tournament. Italy won that game against Bulgaria, but they were still knocked out of the tournament early.
After 2004, Corradi didn't get called up to the national team as much. This was because other strong forwards like Luca Toni and Alberto Gilardino started playing very well.
Style of Play: How Bernardo Corradi Played
Bernardo Corradi was often called an "old-fashioned" centre forward. He was a tall, strong, and physical striker. This meant he was very good at scoring goals, especially with his head. He was also known for working hard when his team didn't have the ball. He would press defenders to help his team get the ball back.
Coaching Career: From Player to Coach
In 2017, Bernardo Corradi started his coaching career. He joined the Italy national youth team as an assistant coach for the Italy U17 team.
Later, he became the head coach for the Italy U16 and Italy U18 teams. In 2020, he returned to the Under-17 team, this time as their head coach.
Since August 2023, he has been managing the Italy U19 team.
